We’ve never come to expect anything less than the finest in minimalism from Jil Sander, and this upcoming season has delivered on every front. Chunkier footwear styles, with thick soles and hearty construction, are the crux of the utilitarian/militaristic vibe that will dominate the menswear circuit this fall. Functional, elegant leather bags and cases are also on the agenda – nothing groundbreaking, but then again that is just what the industry has been assiduously avoiding.

“With archives spanning over 125 years, the Wolverine 1000 Mile collection is based off reliving the past and its subsequent footwear highlights. The aesthetics as you would imagine lean very much on the side of conservatism, with traditional styles and colors.”
It’s always refreshing to see designers return to their roots – if anything, it’s become a leit motif for the season as labels and retailers alike explore new ways to market themselves more effectively. At a time where quality especially trumps all else, Wolverine has struck while the iron is hot. The collection is indeed conservative, and they’ll last forever – there is a reason it’s called 1000 Mile. With top notch quality and an attractive price point to boot ($235 – $350), they are an appealing buy to be sure.

“Just in time for the blazing weather, we’re excited to introduce our house brand swimsuits. We’ve always had a hard time finding the right swimsuit so we decided to make our own – sexy mesh cutout swimsuits for her and perfectly cut retro inspired swim trunks for him. Show some skin with one of these when you head to the beach, the lake, the pool, or wherever this summer.”
Plus, tribal Tom’s were just made for these – hardly a better pairing for the modern beachcomber.

All these shoes are from indie shoe-maker Thorocraft. Their simple silhouettes and flat soles are right up my alley, and while the weather is currently not suitable for high tops here in NY, I think the quality and craftsmanship that these shoes and boots offer appear excellent. They are available through Thorocraft’s own website and range between $180-260
