As the title implies, the art of Rachel Whiteread carries with it a certain sense of finality – an event has just taken place here, somebody once occupied this space, or at one time this object had a purpose. Now, it sits empty; the viewer cannot obtain closure from the current state, there is no resolution and there is no reassurance. Whiteread’s monolithic architectural forms occupy negative space with their own more subtle brand of emptiness; they loom like spectres, ghostly forms with a presence both palpable and sepulchral. Very powerful indeed.

I always had a thing for Eames chairs. Arne Jacobsen isn’t half bad either. These compositions by Monica Scürle compliment the furnity in a very minimalist and Scandinavian way with light interiors and large windows, where furniture adds the warmth to the room. (plastolux)
‘Before stepping down from Maison Martin Margiela this month, the Belgian designer was looking within. Not only did he launch a collection of furniture and “white objects” for the home, like this beautiful embroidered calendar, he also designed the Suite Ile aux Oiseaux at Les Sources de Caudalie near Bordeaux. Vladimir Rachev‘s “Soil Cutlery” is designed to remind us of garden instruments. He argues it will make us think of where our food comes from. Nice gimmick, even nicer cutlery (dailyicon)
These are some of the items from the new Jimmy Choo collection for H&M, which follows a long line of highend designers at affordable prices. Previous names have been Karl Lagerfeld, Viktor & Rolf, Roberto Cavalli and Matthew Williamson. This is also Jimmy Choo’s first men’s wear collection and it features a daring blue, slightly reminiscent of Adidas-blue, which I have not seen around in this concentration in a while

Soyo Shelf An intriguing shelving unit, made from components with curved edges. The curved edges of each part adds a roundness to the shelf made of horizontal and vertical compositions, allowing the edges to feel slimmer and creating a light, airy form. Although the surfaces appeared to be curved, the shelf boards are actually flat.

This futuristic car is the Citröen Karin. Having no new models to reveal at the 1980 Paris Salon, Citroën stylist Trevor Fiore was given the go ahead to build a model (not a driveable car) for display. The result was the trapezoidal Karin, clearly inspired by Michel Harmand’s design for a GS Coupé. A three seater with the driver being seated centrally and ahead of the two passengers, this layout pre-empted that of the McLaren F1 of 1992. (designyoutrust)
