In this short video doc, VICE catches up with Nikki in her NYC studio and gets an in-depth look at the concept behind her photography work. Nikki’s most notable pieces are her “projects” – interacting with different groups of people, she transforms herself into one of them and documents the experience with casual point and shoot snapshots. Her work always involves others; she believes that the self cannot be fully understood outside the context of human interaction.

Imagine to receive a letter, telling you to stand in your window at a specific time at night with the light turned on, and an anonymous photographer will take your photo. That was what these people did. There was no other contact than the letter. The request came from Japanese born Shizuka Yokomizo, who made the exibition “Strangers” – pictures consisting of strangers in their windows at night. Enjoy.

Phase seamlessly from beach to street, from dusk to dawn, with these sublime phase out tanks and swim shorts from Warriors of Radness. Just imagine the dark, wavering silhouettes of palm trees cast against the pinks, oranges, purples, and reds of a dramatic seaside sunset and you’ll get the picture.

Lomography

Yes, analogue photography is (more) expensive and time consuming. But this little old Russian Smena 8 camera I bought on Ebay is a nice toy. The Lomo cameras was introduced in the 80′s. It’s cheap, made of plastic, completely unpredictable, the colors are weird and double exposures are common (as you can see on the two pictures I took of my friend Maria)  Perfect for the beach on a sunny day. Who said retro?

Go get one!

Mathias Lauridsen and Freja Beha Erichsen enter into a tumultuous game of love and war for the March 2010 issue of Vogue Italia. Exhibiting an old-age charm, the stylings of Lori Goldstein make quite the impression with the cinematic In Grande Stile photographed by Steven Meisel. (thefashionisto)
