Cover me

Not really a Bruce fan but this track Cover Me from his massively successful album Born in the U.S.A. is 80ies feel the good way. In fact it was recorded as a demo, and the song was to be given to disco queen Donna Summer.

Let’s go surfing

The Drums – Let’s Go Surfing from POPFRENZY HQ on Vimeo.

Taken from The Drums’ debut EP “Summertime!” The Drums offer the unlikeliest of hybrids, and stage a clash in their songs between wildly opposing aesthetics and ideas, as though Sun Records and Factory Records had joined forces. Let’s Go Surfing, their debut single, released on Moshi Moshi (who put out early records by Hot Chip, Florence and the Machine, Friendly Fires and Kate Nash), features New Order-style trebly, melodic bass, Ventures-esque guitar, and what many are calling “the most infectious whistling line since Peter, Bjorn and John.”

“Island, IS” by Volcano Choir from their Jagjaguwar album Unmap. Video directed by Michinori Saigo.
Volcano Choir is an assembly of Wisconsinites Jon Mueller, Chris Rosenau, Jim Schoenecker, Daniel Spack, Justin Vernon, and Thomas Wincek. You might find these old friends also frequenting records and stages under different monikers, Collections of Colonies of Bees and Bon Iver. The collaboration predates the meteoric rise of Justin Vernon’s Bon Iver project, with original songwriting dating back to the summer of 2005, right around the time the Bees first toured with Vernon’s previous band DeYarmond Edison.
